JULY 4, 2011

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!! Today Schofield Barracks put on a huge 4th of July celebration.  They really went all out.  They had carnival rides and food from just about everywhere and of course shaved ice.  Love shaved ice.  The best is still at the NEX.  There was great music and it was a lot of fun.  The kids really enjoyed themselves but we did have to contend with occasional downpour but all and all it was still a lot of fun.  The fireworks was of course the best part and I would have to say this was probably the best fireworks show I have seen on an installation.  It was definitely better than Ft. Sam Houston.

JULY 1, 2011 OUR UNDERWATER ADVENTURE

Today Chris decided that we were going to something fun.  One of his friends from Germany was in town with his family while he was on RR from Afghanistan so we decided to go with them on Atlantis.  It is a submarine that takes you down to see what lies beneath the ocean.   For those who know me I am not the most adventurous person so needless to say I was worried that I would get sea sick but to my surprise I didn't.  Chris likes to say it was all in my head but we'll see.  So you get on a boat that takes you out to the submarine and once your on board the submarine you begin your journey.  The deepest we went was about 110 feet and all I can say it was pretty cool.  I like to do it again closer to whale season because you may get to see the humpback whales.  We did thought get to see a lot pretty fish and to our surprise a shark.  Check the pics.

JUNE 28, 2011 - ROWAN KARATE

Well we decided to put Rowan and Isabel in karate at the start of summer.  Unfortunately Isabel only lasted two days but Rowan has stuck with it and seems to really enjoy it.  At the end of July he will be attending a tournament that is karate association is hosting so they all get to participate.  He goes Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Thursdays they get to spar.  So here are some pics of Rowan sparring.  These pics are not very good and I took them with my phone.

JUNE 23, 2011 - HALE KOA LUAU

Today we got to attend the Hale Koa luau.  I won tickets at the newcomers luncheon and we finally were able to use them.  It was a lot of fun, the entertainment was awesome and the food was fairly descent.  Rowan really enjoyed the fire part of the show and Isabel enjoyed all of the dances.  I really like the guy from Samoa he was so funny and entertaining.  The second counselor in our bishopric is from Samoa and he is hillarious too maybe that's just part of being Samoan.  The luau had a lot of activities for the kids and it was a lot of fun.

He is from the island of Samoa and he was very entertaining.

Here he showed us how they climb the counut trees.

They did a little fashion show.  They showed you the different ways to wear the dresses.

She is trying to teach everyone a hula dance

Getting ready to pull the pig out of the ground.
An authentic imu (Hawaiian underground oven) ceremony.  Our dinner consisted of native food such as lomi lomi salmon, kalua pig, teriyaki beef, shoyu chicken, Mahimahi, fresh fruit, pineapple and poi.  I didn't not like the poi but the pineapple was so sweet and good.

Here it is our dinner (pig)!! and it was so good.

Isabel waiting to eat.

Start of the entertainment.  They put on a great show.  We saw dances from every Polynesian island and lastly we got to see them a live fire knife dance and Rowan really enjoyed that.  It was hard to take pics because it was so dark.
